In a tweet posted on Sunday, the former executive director of the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission, José Maymó Azize, confirmed that Orlando Rivera will take over his role. Rivera has a longstanding career as gaming supervisor at state-run corporation Puerto Rico Tourism Company.
"I wish Mr. Orlando Rivera nothing but success in his new role as executive director of the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission," the outgoing Executive Director said via Twitter.
Moreover, the online journal NotiCel reported that Carlos Mercado, who served as deputy director of the Tourism Company, has now been promoted to executive director of the state-run corporation responsible for stimulating, promoting, and regulating the development of Puerto Rico's tourism industry.
The Puerto Rico Tourism Company has been facing severe challenges since the beginning of the year, after a series of earthquakes struck Puerto Rico. When the island was starting to recover, the COVID-19 outbreak began.
